Microsoft Outlook and Hotmail Down Globally: What to Know as Users Report Login and Email Issues

Published On: July 10, 2025

Microsoft Outlook and Hotmail Down currently, with users across the globe reporting issues accessing their email accounts since the morning of July 10, 2025.

While Microsoft has not yet confirmed the full scope of the disruption, the outage appears to be affecting users in multiple countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Outlook, part of the Microsoft 365 suite, is used by more than 400 million people worldwide, making the impact widespread and significant.

According to the outage tracking platform DownDetector, user reports began to spike around 5:00 a.m. ET. Affected users have reported being unable to log in, seeing error messages such as “Something went wrong” or “Invalid license,” and experiencing mailbox loading issues.

Microsoft has acknowledged the issue via its 365 status dashboard and stated that engineering teams are investigating mailbox authentication problems. No official time has been given for full service restoration.

Many users took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their frustrations and search for updates. Hashtags like #OutlookDown and #HotmailDown started trending shortly after the disruption began, as users in both personal and professional settings faced email access problems.

This outage follows several recent service disruptions from Microsoft. In November 2024, users were unable to access Exchange Online and Teams calendar features. In September 2024, Microsoft 365 users experienced login problems across several services. One of the most significant incidents occurred in July 2024 when a flawed update from cybersecurity company CrowdStrike caused widespread crashes in Microsoft Windows systems globally. That event disrupted hospitals, banks, airlines, and public services but was later confirmed not to be a cyberattack.

As of now, Microsoft engineers are rolling out configuration changes to resolve the Outlook and Hotmail issues. Users are advised to monitor the Microsoft 365 Service Health portal and follow @MSFT365Status on X for the latest updates.

This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.
